I’ve been trying to buy more produce and products locally, wherever and whenever possible. I stopped by this one stand on the way into work on Monday and picked up some sweet cherries. Yep, a tad steep at $4.50 a box (especially in comparison to my old fave in DC, Eastern Market). However, there are some good deals to be had (I instead opted for quick and grab versus somewhere where they would have to be weighed). It doesn’t always have to be expensive though. There are good buys to be had. It’s not going to replace all of your grocery needs – but it’s something worth figuring into the mix.

My new thing too is local honey. I’ve been putting it into my smoothies and it tastes a million times better than regular honey, and I was a pretty big fan of honey in general to begin with. It’s a lot sweeter I think but it just has such a pure flavor. Totally worth it. I’ve also read it’s great for your allergies so the fact that it’s locally produced helps you to build up some tolerance. I know I need all of the help I can get so definitely a good benefit.

Does anyone else shop at some interesting markets in the city they’d recommend? My comments are in particular about the Union Square Greenmarket, which is every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday (save some holiday time periods – like possibly this upcoming Friday). Please share if you have other recommendations. I’d love to hear them!
